Alliance Hand Therapy offers care across Northern Virginia through our clinics in Alexandria, Fairfax, Springfield, and Woodbridge.

Our Hand Therapy Program specializes in treating conditions affecting the hand and upper extremities. Our Certified Hand Therapists possess a high level of expertise, achieved through thousands of hours of continuing education and advanced certification.

What can HAND THERAPY do for you?

• Provide preventative, non-operative, or conservative treatment
• Manage acute or chronic pain
• Provide wound care, including care of open and/or sutured wounds (prevent infection and aid healing)
• Control hypertrophic (raised and/or swollen) scars or hypersensitive scars
• Reduce swelling
• Instruct in desensitization and sensory re-education following nerve injury or trauma
• Fabricate splints for prevention or correction of injury, protection of surgical sites, or to increase movement
• Design and implement home exercise programs to increase motion, dexterity, and/or strength
• Train in the performance of daily life skills using adapted methods and equipment
• Provide conditioning prior to returning to work

What makes Certified Hand Therapists special?

• A Certified Hand Therapist (C.H.T.) is an occupational or physical therapist specializing in hand treatment. They need at least five years of postgraduate experience, with a minimum of 4,000 hours in hand therapy, and must pass the Hand Therapy Certification Commission exam to earn this credential.
• C.H.T.s are dedicated professionals committed to meeting the highest standards in their field. The intricate anatomy of the hand and arm requires deep knowledge and the latest techniques for effective rehabilitation.
• Certified Hand Therapists possess the highest level of expertise in rehabilitating upper extremity injuries. They can begin treatment immediately after surgery, even while stitches are still present. Early referral to a hand therapist can prevent additional surgeries and ensure the best possible outcomes.
